Health Is Not a Goal, It's a Lifestyle
There never comes a time when one can say that they are healthy now and can stop doing the things that made them healthy in the first place. It is a continuous process.
When you adopt a healthy habit whether it’s in:
- Substituting negative thoughts with positive ones
- Having a spiritual practice, like praying, studying the bible, or helping others
- Developing healthy relationships with family, spouse, friends…
- A regular exercise routine
- Loving what you do daily (i.e. your job)
- Taking time to rest
- Drinking water
- Or eating Nutritious meals
You must keep this lifestyle going otherwise you will experience the consequences of unhappiness and disease when you divert from it.
Adopting healthy habits takes work, but by the grace of God, anyone can do it. When He created man, God gave Adam all that he needed: the food to eat, Genesis 1:29, "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat," and after sin He gave him the herb of the field (Genesis 3:18). Adam also had a spiritual practice, Genesis 3:8, "And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden." He had a job that he obviously loved, Genesis 2:15. God did not forget to give him a companion, Genesis 2:22, and finally, God gave man a day of rest, a day to rejuvenate, meditate and appreciate the Creative power of God.
The way to adopt healthy habits is to make conscious effort to change one thing at a time. But sometimes we find people who can do a complete turn-around at once. This is the exception rather than the rule.
When you practice a habit for 21 days continuously, chances are that you can keep the habit. However, when you adopt the lifestyle for 6 months chances are higher that you will keep up with the practice.
It could be anything as simple as drinking more water, sleeping for 8 hours a day, memorizing a scripture, expressing gratitude, discarding some foods, the Bible is full of good habits that we all can adopt.
So, choose wisely, adopt healthy habits and keep them.
God Bless.
